Equality and Diversity

Virtue & Vice are proud to run games in a welcoming and non-discriminatory manner in which every participant is equal, without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity, marital status, age, disability, sexual orientation, national origin, or other characteristics. In keeping with this, all participants, players and crew alike, are expected to treat one another in a manner that reflects dignity and respect. We know that interpersonal conflict is an essential part of a high-tension LRP experience, but we would ask everyone to be mindful of the fact that conflict should always be clearly between characters, and the attributes of the player should not be used to drive or perpetuate IC conflict.

Please be respectful of participants’ genders and their correct pronouns, and avoid mistakenly misgendering fellow participants in or out of character. If you make an error, or hear someone mistakenly misgender someone in or out of character, please correct appropriately and move on. Everyone makes mistakes and nobody wants an unintentional slip blown out of proportion. If you have a concern or complaint about your treatment by another participant, your first port of call should be to contact Chiara Mac Call or Morgan Nash (Refs/ E&D reps) who will make themselves known to all participants at the start of the game.

If your complaint concerns these Refs/E&D reps, you should contact one of the other referees (Matt Heath, Shaun Sullivan and Olly Godby).

Virtue & Vice has no tolerance for discrimination, bigotry or OC malice. We will not hesitate to remove participants who clearly fail to adhere to our policy, intentionally or otherwise.

Non-Contact / Time Out Rules

Virtue & Vice wish to make this event as inclusive as possible. To support the participation of people who cannot engage in combat and people who may need to take a break from roleplaying, we have devised the following rules. It is essential that all participants read and understand these rules.

People who absolutely do not want to engage in combat

Profound Decisions has “Non-contact” rules which can be found here. These are in place for anyone who wants to remove themselves from a combat situation. Please make sure you are aware of these rules as they will apply to this game and are important for safety reasons.

In addition, there will be the option for individuals who absolutely do not want to engage in any combat to wear a visible identifying token signalling to others that they do not wish to engage in combat.

  • It is the responsibility of the token-wearer to display the token at all times.
  • It is the responsibility of every attendee to make all efforts *not* to hit someone wearing this token.

If a fight kicks off in proximity of the token-wearer it is the responsibility of the token-wearer to move themselves to safety. If this is not possible, the token-wearer should default to the Profound Decisions “Non-contact” rules. If the token-wearer is in any way concerned for their safety, call “Man Down” so the fight can be immediately stopped and they can move to safety.

If for any reason you wish to attack a token-wearer IC please speak to a ref.

People who may need to take a break from roleplaying

There are many reasons why people may need to take a break from roleplaying. The site will always have clearly identified OOC space available for anyone who wishes to time out for a break. All players are actively encouraged to prioritise self-care.

In addition to this we will be offering an opt-in token system to support people who are aware they may need to take breaks at short notice or who may struggle to articulate that in the moment.

The “I need a break” token can be worn visibly or carried and shown as needed.

If the token-wearer taps the token, this is an indication that they need to take a break. No IC or OOC grief should be given to anybody who does this. All attendees are required to immediately cease roleplaying with the token-wearer. It is the responsibility of the token-wearer to take themselves to an OOC area but please don’t hesitate to ask for help if you wish it.

If you would like an identifying token of either kind please email us at virtueandvicelrp@gmail.com

Every effort should be made by every attendee to respect this system.

Children

Virtue & Vice follows the same guidelines for children, parents and carers as are detailed on the Profound Decisions wiki which can be found here.

  • This event contains adult themes within the scope of Profound Decisions guidelines. If you are concerned as to the suitability for children, please talk to us beforehand.
  • All efforts will be made to provide separate accommodation for families with children. Please contact us when booking to take advantage of this.
